Going Long: Training for Ironman-Distance Triathlons by Joe Friel and Gordon Byrn This is a great book for someone training for an Ironman, but has a life with priorities (job, family, etc.) greater than the race. It addresses more of the issues of what takes place during the race, such as psychological issues and nutrition, than it does training. Ultramarathon Man: Confessions of an All-Night Runner by Dean Karnazes The autobiography of ultra-marathoner Dean Karnazes. While some criticize him as self-promotional, this book is a fun and inspiring read. This book is worth purchasing alone for the chapter devoted to telling the story of his first 100 mile race, the Western States 100.
